10th Nov – Upstarts vs Beaconsfield Bears

>
>> So once again the Upstarts went into battle against old foes Beaconsfield Bears …
>>
>> Oscar was first up and whilst the first game was a tight affair, he thereafter played beautifully and his opponent Mark had no answers — 3-0 and the first rubber to the Upstarts.
>>
>> Kate was next up against Ash, who it seemed had no answer to Kate’s speed around the court, before we knew it Kate was 2-0 up and looked comfortable … actually a slight wobble ensued as Ash took the 3rd game to 8-8 but Kate regathered her composure to take it 10-8 . 2 up to the Upstarts.
>>
>> Meanwhile Andy took to the court against opponent Dave and it was clear during the knock-ip to some of us that an Andy classic was forthcoming .
>>
>> Indeed it was, as in the match of the evening the games too and froed. In the first game, the first 8 points or so went without more than a 3 shot rally until we suddenly had what I think I counted was something like a 25 shot rally. The ball was finding angles and directions rarely seen in conventional games . Having lost the first 4-9 and then won the second 9-4 Andy seemed to take control at 7-0 up in the third, but a couple of minutes later found himself 7-8 down and scrapping for the game. Happily thats exactly what he did and took it 10-9 to go 2-1 up. Suffice to say the match still went to 5 with Andy eventually coming out on top 9-6 in the 5th. Great fun and sealing the match overall for the upstarts. I’m not sure Oscar will have picked up an awful lot of technical tips from that one, but nothing at all wrong with the do or die attitude of both players 🙂 Interestingly on a points score alone Andy lost it 36-37 haha.
>>
>> In the final 2 matches , Wayne played Dave Fielding of our own manor and Phil played Dave Reynolds. At 1-1 it was looking like the match might be going to 5 but Wayne did what Wayne does and imposed his touch game to come out a fairly comfortable 3-1 winner. Phil look like he was in the match at 1-1 but an achilles injury he had picked up in the first game eventually told and Dave came out on top 3-1 to gain some respectability for the Bears
>>
>> So 17-6 to the Upstarts. Well done team
