Jo Head Awarded Bucks LTA Coach of the Year
While we have sadly recently lost her services after some 14 years to an exciting new challenge at the Bucks Indoor Centre, I am sure you would want to celebrate Jo Head winning Bucks Tennis coach of the year for the second successive year as a result of her work at Chesham Bois.
If like me you know Jo, this will come as no surprise as her style and personality perfectly reflect the Club’s core ethos of being a members club run by members to enable them to play tennis at whatever level they wish.
As Head Coach Jo dedication to the club seemed endless, including a Friday drop-in for adults, an adult and children cardio session for general fitness, one-to-one tuition and group lessons for children of all abilities, people attending these sessions are from different backgrounds, ages and abilities.
Jo had a particular focus on juniors and this year alone, she has brought a number to county level with Milly Sallous, Chloe Salloux, Anna Whibley and Oliver Osborn selected to play in county matches. She organised mini tennis tournaments as well as being an integral part in the running of the grade 3 Open Tournament at the club.
Jo is inspirational, encouraging, creative and friendly, always knowing how to get the most out of her students whatever their personality. Younger students initially are taught a love of the game before they are given the skills to play competitively. Jo has also been mentoring some of the young coaching assistants – One of them Ella Henry won Young Volunteer of the Year for Bucks as part of the LTA’s annual Tennis Awards this year.
Jo was presented with her award by Rosemary Badman, President of Bucks Tennis at the County’s AGM on 26th November and we wish her all success in her new venture.
