Mary Crowshaw – Bucks Tennis Lifetime Achievement Award

Mary Crowshaw – Bucks Tennis Lifetime Achievement Award

I suspect that despite the fact she still plays weekly, the average current tennis member’s knowledge of Mary Crowshaw is limited to seeing her serving match suppers to the squash section or organising the catering at tournaments held at the club.  A smaller number will attend her monthly suppers and fewer still will have served with her on the various clubs committees over the 40 plus years that she has been a member.

For those who do know her however it will come as no surprise that Mary has received a Lifetime Achievement Award by Bucks LTA as her dedication to the club and the county has been second to none.  Mary’s endless enthusiasm and willingness to help, be involved and provide knowledge is a great asset  for which we are all grateful,  inspired by her energy and willingness to give her time to our club.

Over the years our reputation as great club to visit has been enhanced by the many compliments about the quality of the catering produced under Mary’s exacting standards, which have been passed on to the many volunteers who have helped her over the years.

I believe Mary’s willingness and belief in volunteering and leading by example has brought many of us into increased volunteering at the club. Without the likes of Mary there would have been a greater move away from volunteering as our lives become busier. Seeing others making time to improve our club provides a great role model to get other people to follow suit.

As mentioned earlier Mary has served on a number of the club’s committees over the year and still took time to take on extra responsibilities.  In 1989 the clubhouse suffered major fire damage and Mary volunteered to be the ‘Clerk of Works’ for the year it took to complete the restoration works.  Quite rightly this huge commitment was recognised by the club and in 1990 Mary was made a Life Member of Chesham Bois LT&S Club.

If all of this were not enough Mary is also the long serving Secretary of the Bucks LTA.  Here not only is she always supportive of the club but in addition keeps us up to speed on the latest LTA initiatives.

We are very lucky to have Mary at Chesham Bois and in addition to congratulations on this award which was presented to her at the Bucks Tennis AGM on 26th November by the President Rosemary Badman, we wish her the best in the National Award process.
