Men’s team squash – 1A v Holmer Green, 23 March 2016

The 1a’s travelled to their rivals for upper-mid-table Holmer Green on Wednesday looking for revenge following their 3-2 loss earlier in the season. Will Gardner was first on and was extremely keen to avenge his loss to James Harley earlier in the season. He continued his excellent recent form to move into a 2-0 lead before seeing off a spirited fight back from James to emerge as a 3-1 winner. Dan then faced his good friend and regular adversary Tor in a topsy turvy match which neither player ever dominated for long. Despite Tor’s superior fitness, Dan managed to hit a few winners at crucial times to emerge a 3-2 victor. Chris Wildman then took to the court looking to put an end to the recent rumours that had been circulating that he was potentially going to be replaced by a younger player. He swiftly dispatched his opponent 3-0 to win the match and silence his doubters! Paul Bolden wasn’t able to reach the level of recent weeks – due to his lack of tapas and wine for his lunch apparently!! – but he still was able to add the icing to the cake with a 3-1 victory over Ross Baker. The final showpiece game saw Sam face the relentless consistency of Alex Hartley. Despite a number of excellent rallies, Sam wasn’t able to gain control of the T and lost in 3. With two games to go, the 1a’s now have a great chance to finish in the perennial Arsenal position of 4th!
