Men’s team squash – 1B v Beaconsfield, 30 March 2016

With relegation on the line, a weakened 1B side hosted a similarly weakened Beaconsfield. 1B started the day bottom of the table, 6 points below their opponents, with both having three matches left. The CBLTSC team were still looking for their first home victory of the season and despite the late withdrawal of a reinjured Simon Ross, went into the match fired up to get the win. Unfortunately the tone was set in the very first match when an immobile Steve Sieff threw away a 2 game lead to lose to a similarly below par Nic Manley. That match proved decisive as comprehensive victories for Tom Paine (performance of the night by a distance) at 2 and Richard Eaton-Hart at 4 were not enough to offset 3-0 defeats at 1 and 5. It leaves the CBLTSC boys with a mountain to climb in their last two fixtures, but there is still a chance, especially if they can lay off the 18 inch pizzas.
