Men’s team squash – Week 5 report

Week 5 should have seen all the teams in action after the early season break
but despite recording a 19-0 result in their home match against Aylesbury,
1a won’t be winning team of the week because they were awarded a walkover
when Aylesbury were unable to field a team. I’m sure Dan’s boys would have
done the business anyway. Instead interest in Div 1 focused on Booker Lane,
Wycombe, where 1b recorded their first win (OK it’s only actually their
third fixture) over WSRC 1. A dominant 3-0 performance from captain Rob
Parry over Rob Wallace at 4 coupled with two convincing 3-1 victories for
James Pearson over George Goodchild at 3 and Neil Hinds over Andy Walters at
5 gave the team a much needed boost.

The previous night was a busy one for those on Twitter as all the division 2
teams were in action. The Juniors recorded a close 3-2 victory over
Beaconsfield Bulls, with wins for Andy Piper at 1, captain Simon Clark at 3
and Ben Boulter at 5. The Seniors went away to RAF Halton and also recorded
their first win of the season with excellent 3-0 victories for Phil Cornhill
over Iain Digby at 1, Simon Brown over Danny Batson at 2 and Peter Smith
over Lee Cobley at 5. Tim Paul likes to make things more exciting so he gave
Geoff Wiseman a decent 2-0 and 5-1 start before going on to save 3 match
points and then had 3 of his own before finally winning 10-9 in 5th. Less
positive for the Upstarts away to WSRC 2 with only Paul Bartington managing
to get a game off a strong Booker line-up.

Next week the Juniors are at home again on Tuesday 11 November and will be
looking to do better than the Upstarts when they host WSRC 2. The Upstarts
themselves make the short trip to Chesham 1879 on the same night and will be
looking to kick start their season with a win. Wednesday 12 November brings
the much anticipated 1b v 1a clash. It is not clear yet whether Sky Sports
or another broadcaster will be picking up the match so you are strongly
advised to get there and watch it live. Then the Seniors round off the week
with a home match against Aylesbury 2 on Thursday 13th. So three home
matches to enjoy this week. Come one, come all!

updates of CBLTSC performances on the night are posted by various players
