Men’s team squash – Week 7 report

A very busy week 7 with a couple of changes to the advertised program.

Tuesday saw the Juniors travel to RAF Halton. The Juniors are flying high in
the table but they need wins to stay on the heels of a strong WSRC 2 side.
Halton is a tough fixture to get a result in so all credit to the Juniors
for pulling off a 3-2 win. A couple of close 3-2 victories for Tim
Leslie-Smith at 3 over Len Brettell and Ben Boulter at 4 over Nigel Peters
coupled with an impressive 3-0 for Juniors debutant Rishi Chandra at 5 over
Lee Cobley got the job done.

Meanwhile Rishi’s former team, the Seniors, were in a battle with
Beaconsfield Bears. Once again, great wins at the top of the order, with
Simon Brown staging a 3-1 comeback victory against Stef Lubek hence
continuing the impressive Seniors’ unbeaten record at string 1. And Tim
‘Houdini’ Paul coming back from 1-2 1-6, saving match ball at 9-9, then
winning the 5th against a quick Chris Gildersleve. Unfortunately the Bears’
squad strength told in the end and they closed it out to give Beaconsfield
another 3-2 victory over CBLTSC.

Wednesday was a crunch day for CBLTSC 1a as they took on league rivals
Beaconsfield Tigers. It was an unfortunate week for the league champions to
be missing a couple of regulars but they put in an impressive performance
nonetheless in a 2-3 defeat. Great wins for in form Will Gardner 3-2 over
Liam Radley at 2 and Chris Wildman 3-2 over Dan Fernandez at 4 and credit to
Sam Pothecary for pushing Paul Boyle at 1. CBLTSC 1b weren’t able to get
back to back wins as they went down 1-4 at Aylesbury Grammar. Some good
performances but only Wayne Scott able to pull off the 3-1 win over Sam
Mueller at 5. The 1b squad need to look to pick up some points soon to move
themselves up the table.

After wins for Chris Wildman and Wayne Scott on Wednesday, the Upstarts
welcomed back their 1 and 2 for their rearranged trip to Holmer Green on
Thursday. Victories for Wayne Scott in a potentially fiery 3-0 over Darren
Thomson at 2, Paul Bartington 3-1 over Nick Baker at 3, Phil Williams 3-1
over Trevor Howes at 4 and Andy Kay 3-2 over Dave Albin at 5 gave the
Upstarts the 4-1 victory.

Normally the week would end there but this week Sunday night saw the Seniors
take on the Upstarts in one of the club bragging rights matches.
#geriatricsquash carried the day with a 4-1 victory although the result will
be slightly coloured for the old boys as their unbeaten record at 1 finally
fell. Results were: Chris Wildman beat Simon Brown 3-0, Tim Paul beat Paul
Bartington 3-1, Chairman Ballingall beat Simon Ackers 3-2 after letting a
2-0 lead slip, Peter Smith beat Andy Kay 3-2, challenging Tim Paul’s
‘Houdini’ tag as he came back from 0-2 and match ball down, and Neil Thomas
beat Alex Pritchard 3-1 after the big man sustained a blood injury.

After the excitement of week 7, the pace slows a little in week 8 as the
Seniors and Upstarts get a rest after their exertions. Still 3 matches

Tuesday 25 November: The Juniors host Aylesbury 2
Wednesday 26 November: 1b host Beaconsfield Lions and 1a travel to Holmer
