High Wycombe 2 (home) 22 Mar 16.
Close but no cigar against the Nomads: 2-3 (10-16).
With the visitors strengthened by Simon Miller at #1, we knew we had our work cut out. The first strings were on first and although Neil H came very close to getting the 3rd (and what turned out to be final) game, the class of the Bucks O45 player showed through with some excellent boasts, tight play and telling lengths. Next up was Neil T who despite losing a close first game, pulled back to go 2-1 and 6-3 up before eventually being denied by the nimble Adam W. Meanwhile Tim P was exacting revenge on Petr, coming through a worthy 3-1 winner and showing that a few pints at lunchtime isn’t necessarily a bad thing! Simon B took to the court at 3 for another marathon battle, this time against Mark B. Showing great fighting spirit and amazing court coverage, Simon pulled back from 0-2 to win 3-2, greeted by enthusiastic applause from the home balcony. In the space of just a couple of Simon’s games, Andy Mayhew at 4 took on Matt A and the score progressed to 2-all. In the 5th, Andy moved to a 6-1 lead before Matt decided to consider what was happening, or not happening, and played a real captain’s game to go straight through and win the match in one hand. As we all know, it isn’t over ‘till it’s over! Still, a good effort by Andy against an accomplished player.
So although disappointing not to get our revenge against the Nomads, another close and gripping match which is what it’s all about.
